My entry into the 2013 BFI Short Film Competition. The brief was to take one of three short scripts and translate it into a short film. I chose Elliott Weld’s script “Just Talk to Me” in part due to the fact that I liked its simplicity and also for its thriller conventions. I liked the look of black and white because it felt like CCTV footage and made the protagonist seem more alone and isolated, plus it made the whole thing look a bit more stylish. Nothing came of the competition in the end, but for a short film bashed out in two days I can’t really complain! I’ve subsequently seen Oliver Stone’s Talk Radio and realised this script was quite heavily influenced by it.
